Burntisland, Fife born right back Bob Bonthron joined Raith Rovers in 1900 from Raith Athletic and stayed two seasons at Stark’s Park before joining Dundee in 1902. He moved to Second Division Manchester United in 1903 making his Football League debut against Bristol City in September 1903, and playing 26 times as they were promoted in 1905-06 as Second Division runners up.

He scored 3 goals in 134 appearances for The Red Devils before joining Sunderland in 1907 but only had a single season on Wearside, scoring once in 23 appearances before joining Southern League Northampton Town in the 1908 close season. In the summer of 1910 he returned to Football League action with Birmingham scoring once in 12 appearances before a loan spell at Airdrie in 1911 and a permanent move back to Scotland with Leith Athletic in 1912, after which he retired from professional football.
