Sunderland born centre half Danny Bew began his football career with Lambton Star and signed for Sunderland in September 1921 on amateur forms, where he spent 1921-22 on their books without making a first team appearance. In May 1922 he joined Second Division Hull City, making his Football League debut at Bury that August, spending a single season at Anlaby Road during which he made 12 first team appearances.

In June 1923 he joined Swindon Town, where he missed only one game in his debut season and was a regular as The Robins recorded five successive top 6 finishes in the Third Division (South) without achieving promotion. Bew lost his place after four matches in September 1929 and made only 8 more appearances in 1929-30 before finishing with professional football in 1930, having scored 6 goals in 223 appearances for Swindon Town.
