Poplar, London born centre forward Fred Bevan started with Poplar and Millwall St John’s before joining Southern League Millwall Athletic in 1899. He was signed by Manchester City in May 1901, making his Football League debut at Everton that September but found opportunities limited and joined Southern League club Reading in 1903 after a single goal in 9 appearances. He joined Queen’s Park Rangers in 1904 staying two years at Loftus Road before joining Bury in May 1906.

He was The Shakers’ top scorer with 18 goals in 34 appearances during their 1906-07 campaign, and Fulham bought him in May 1907 ahead of their inaugural League season. He played in The Cottagers’ inaugural League match, a defeat at home to Hull City at the start of September, but he only managed one goal in 5 appearances at Craven Cottage before joining Derby County in October 1907.

At Derby he grabbed 14 goals in his first season as Derby finished sixth in the Second Division but Bevan joined Clapton Orient in November 1909 after 18 goals in 52 appearances. He played four seasons at Millfields Road, scoring 36 goals in 122 appearances before joining non league Chatham in 1913.
