Radcliffe, Lancashire born inside left Tom Bentley first played for Crewe Alexandra after the First World War in 1919 when they were a Central League club, but joined Eccles United in 1921 before their accession to Football League status. He re-joined Crewe Alexandra, by now playing in the Third Division (North) in the 1922 close season, making his Football League debut against Rochdale that August, scoring 13 goals in 29 appearances for Crewe in 1922-23, when he was the club’s leading goalscorer as Crewe finished 6th in the division. However he left Gresty Road in 1923 and his career thereafter is uncertain.
