Description

Noted for his all-action enthusiasm at left back, 200-game stalwart Attilio Pietro Becci began his career at outside right and played for junior side Arbroath Roselea before having a trial with Dundee United, making his Scottish League debut and only appearance while still a trialist in a 5-2 victory over Clydebank in a Division Two fixture in September 1930. He was a 1932 signing for his local Scottish club Arbroath, where he was familiarly known as ‘Teel’, and played for Arbroath through to the Second World War. He was part of The Red Lichties’ team that beat Celtic 2-0 at Gayfield in October 1937.

During the War he guested for Leicester City during 1943-44, making 8 appearances for The Foxes, and also turned out for Notts County, in addition he represented a high-quality British Army XI in Naples in 1945. After the War he was released by Arbroath in 1946 and had a brief spell as player coach of Wick Academy. He then played for Highland League Forres Mechanics but broke his leg in 1947 and played for Arbroath St Thomas in 1949, where he kept goal. He also played for Juventus (of Dundee) and Victoria in the early 1950’s. The exotic name was inherited from a Parma-born father who ran an Arbroath fish-and-chip shop.
