Centre forward Jimmy Balfour made a significant mark on his debut for Dundee, scoring four goals in a 5-2 win over Ayr United in March 1931 and that December scored hat-tricks on successive weekends in victories over Partick Thistle and Rangers. Balfour went on to score an impressive 41 goals in 47 appearances for The Dark Blues, his final hat-trick coming against Bo’ness in February 1933.
At the end of 1932-33, Balfour was placed on the free transfer list and on the 20th September 1933 he signed for Third Lanark. At the tail end of that same season, Balfour signed for Montrose on the 6th April 1934.
He also had a short trial with Brechin in November of that same year.
