Leiston, Suffolk born inside forward Wilfred Bailey began his football career with Ipswich Town in 1921, then playing in the Southern Amateur League, and towards the end of the same year he joined Scottish League club Kilmarnock, making his Scottish League debut at Falkirk in January 1922, scoring in a 2-1 defeat. But he made only one further appearance in a 3-2 win at home to Clydebank the following week before leaving Rugby Park to return to England, joining Third Division (North) club Chesterfield. He made his Football League debut at Stalybridge Celtic in February 1923 and made 2 further appearances for The Spireites before the end of the season, before leaving Saltergate. After an unsuccessful trial with Stockport County later in 1923 he left the professional game.
