Description

East Ham, London born Dan Bailey inside forward Dan Bailey began his senior career with Southern League West Ham United, making his debut against Northampton Town in March 1913. After 16 goals in 53 appearances his career was interrupted by the onset of the First World War forcing the suspension of peacetime football, during which Bailey served as a private in the Machine Gun Corps, playing 4 wartime league matches for The Hammers in late 1915.

He returned to Upton Park after the War, by when West Ham United had been promoted to the Second Division, making his Football League debut at Leicester City in November 1919, scoring 10 goals in 30 appearances during their inaugural League campaign, beating his best return of 9 goals in 1913-14, but he only played 8 more matches during 1920-21 before joining Third Division (South) club Charlton Athletic in the 1921 close season after 95 games and 27 goals for The Hammers. He scored 8 goals in 33 appearances for Charlton in 1921-22 but stayed only a season before a move to Second Division Clapton Orient the following summer, however he only managed 4 goals in 19 games for The O’s in 1922-23 before retiring from professional football.
