Description

Potterspury, Northamptonshire born inside forward Bill Baggett began his football career with Victoria Ironworks in 1921 and joined Wolverhampton Wanderers spending 1922-23 at Molineux without making a first team appearance, before moving to First Division Bolton Wanderers in 1923. He made his Football League debut against Arsenal the same October playing twice in his debut season for The Trotters, but not getting any further opportunity until October 1925, when a goal in a 2-2 draw with Blackburn Rovers was followed by 8 more in 21 further appearances that season, although he wasn’t selected for the 1926 FA Cup Final despite having played in three of the earlier ties including the semi final, when he scored in a 3-0 win over Swansea Town at White Hart Lane.

He scored twice in 3 more games the following September before joining Second Division Reading after 11 goals in 27 appearances for The Trotters. He had three seasons at Elm Park but was never assured of his place, before joining non league Colwyn Bay in 1930. He soon returned to Reading in early 1931 playing once in a defeat at Stoke in April 1931 during their relegation run in, then scoring 8 goals in 31 appearances during their first season in the Third Division (South) in 1931-32 as they narrowly missed out on an immediate return to the Second Division, finishing as runners up. He then joined non league Tunbridge Wells Rangers in the summer of 1932 after having scored 20 goals in 79 appearances for The Royals.
