Tollerton, Nottinghamshire, born left half Jack Armstrong joined Keyworth United in 1903 and played for Keyworth Town before turning professional with First Division Nottingham Forest in 1905, for whom he made his Football League debut against Everton in December 1905. A club stalwart, he played every game as Forest won the Second Division Championship in 1906-07, a trophy he also won in 1921-22 towards the end of his career. He was a Forest regular over the next 14 League seasons, playing both sides of the First World War and also being ever present in 1907-08 and 1919-20, before losing his place in the summer of 1922, playing his last match for Forest in November 1922, and he joined non league Sutton Town in 1923 after 10 goals in 460 appearances for Nottingham Forest, playing for Sutton until his eventual retirement. He remains 7th on the all time list of Nottingham Forest appearance makers.
