Description

Darlington, County Durham born full back Austin Allport began his senior football career on the books at Darlington in 1927-28, but didn’t get an opportunity in their first eleven before joining Third Division (North) club Stockport County in 1928, for whom he made his Football League debut against Tranmere Rovers that August. He made 3 appearances for The Hatters through to November 1928 but left the club at the end of the season, joining Wolverhampton Wanderers in 1929.

He spent 1929-30 at Molineux but again didn’t make a first team appearance before moving to Crewe Alexandra in 1930, spending a single season at Gresty Road, but he left for non league Spennymoor United in 1931 again without having made an appearance. He joined Rhyl Athletic in 1932 before joining Northwich Victoria in 1933, where he played until his eventual retirement.

NB he may well have been the son of 1890’s Middlesbroughplayer Harry Allport.
