Description

Mossend, Lanarkshire born left back Tommy Adamson began his football career before the First World War playing with Craighead in 1913 and Cambuslang Rangers in 1914, and after the War he joined Blantyre Celtic in 1919, with whom he won The Lanarkshire Cup in 1920, and from where he signed for Second Division Bury in June 1920, making his Football League debut against Blackpool that August. He was a regular over the next nine seasons for The Shakers and helped Bury win promotion to the First Division in 1923-24 when they finished as Second Division runners up, but after their relegation in 1929 he left Gigg Lane to join Brentford after 286 appearances.

At Brentford he was a regular as they challenged for promotion for four seasons, achieving the objective in 1932-33 as they won the Third Division (South) Championship, but he was only an occasional starter int their 1933-34 Second Division campaign, and left the club in June 1934 to join Stockport County, however he failed to make the first eleven at Edgeley Park and he was appointed player-manager of Irish League club Ards in 1935, a post he only held briefly before retiring from professional football.
