Description

Hunslet, Yorkshire born wing half George Parkin joined Third Division (North) Halifax Town after the Second World War and made his Football League debut at Wigan Borough in October 1921, but he didn’t become a first team regular until September 1923. Such were his performances during 1923-24 that after 47 appearances he was signed by First Division Burnley in March 1924, going straight into the Burnley team.

Although not always first choice at Turf Moor, in his best season (1927-28) he missed only one game and he stayed 5 years scoring twice in 128 games for The Clarets before joining non league Chester in 1929. He returned to the Football League initially with a brief spell at West Ham United, where he didn’t play for the first eleven, and then at Torquay United during 1931-32, playing 8 times for the Plainmoor club before returning to Halifax Town in 1932. He made a further 25 appearances for The Shaymen in 1932-33 before joining Workington in 1933, where he later finished his football career.

NB the image is interestingly taken from a German published trade card covering footballers, including some British ones.
