Description
Stalwart full back Duncan McClure was a one club servant of Heart of Midlothian who would have made many more official appearances for The Jambos but for the Second World War’s intervention. He made his Hearts debut in a 3-2 victory over St Bernard’s at Tynecastle in August 1933 and played another 15 years for Hearts, retiring in May 1948. A measure of the interruption to his senior career that the War represented is demonstrated by the fact that he made 191 Scottish League and Cup appearances, scoring once, but his wartime appearances alone totalled 180 more games, and in all competitions he made 501 appearances for The Jambos, albeit only the 191 League and Cup appearances in peacetime football count for the official record.
