Description

Stockport born inside forward Norman Rodgers played for local junior Heaton Norris clubs Park Albion in 1908 and Hooley Hill in 1909 before joining hometown Second Division professional club Stockport County in 1911 making his Football League debut against Bradford Park Avenue that November, bagging the winner in a 1-0 victory. He was the club’s top scorer for 5 consecutive seasons before World War One with 11 goals in 1911-12, 19 strikes in1912-13, 12 in 1913-14 and 21 in 1914-15, playing for The Hatters both sides of the War when he was joint top scorer with 13 goals in 1919-20 before being sold to First Division Blackburn Rovers in February 1920 after 76 goals in 166 appearances. At Rovers his 13 strikes in only 11 matches during the rest of the season helped Blackburn narrowly avoid relegation finishing 20th. He played 3 further seasons at Ewood Park scoring 24 goals in 48 games before retiring from professional football in 1923.
