Description

Rainford, Lancashire born outside left Bill Birch joined Blackpool in 1907 making his Football League debut at Leicester Fosse in February 1908, scoring 3 goals in 13 games during the remainder of the season. He signed for Nottingham Forest in the 1908 close season, scoring twice in 14 appearances before joining Southern League Reading in 1909. He went back to Lancashire to play for non league St Helens Town in 1910, playing for Eccles Borough in 1911, but returned to Football League action with Grimsby Town in the 1912 close season, scoring once in 35 games before joining non league Gainsborough Trinity in 1914. During the First World War he played for Rotherham County during the 1918-19 season.
