Description

Newcastle born wing half Billy Bartlett began his football career playing for Brandon and Gateshead NER before joining First Division Sheffield Wednesday in 1903 making his Football League debut against Notts County in February 1904. Although Wednesday won the League Championship that season Bartlett played only 4 times, but he became a first team regular thereafter, being part of Wednesday’s 1905 FA Cup semi-final team losing narrowly to eventual runners-up Newcastle United at Hyde Road, Manchester, and then two years later playing in Wednesday’s triumphant FA Cup Final team which beat Everton 2-1 at The Crystal Palace.

He scored 3 goals in 201 Sheffield Wednesday appearances over seven seasons before joining Huddersfield Town in 1910, playing in their inaugural Football League fixture at Bradford Park Avenue that August and scoring twice in 70 appearances over two seasons at Leeds Road, before joining Irish League Linfield in 1912. While at Linfield he won Irish League representative honours, playing in a 1-1 draw against The Southern League at The Den, Millwall in March 1913.
