Felling, Tyneside born centre forward, inside left or left half Gordon Johnstone joined Brentford from Houghton Rovers in 1922, making his Football League debut at Northampton Town that September and scoring in a 1-1 draw. Playing initially at centre forward, his first season produced 6 of his 7 goals for Brentford, but the following season after scoring only once in 13 matches at centre forward and inside left he moved to the left half berth, however by the start of the 1924-25 season he had lost his place and only played twice more for Brentford’s first team in 1924-25. In total he played 45 matches over three seasons for The Bees until December 1924 before returning to his home town to join Felling Colliery in 1925.
