Description

Hackney, London born outside right George Willshaw began his football career with Southall in 1933 and played for Walthamstow Avenue in 1934 before joining Southend United in February 1936, making his Football League debut at Swindon Town the following month, scoring in a 3-1 victory, scoring another four goals in a dozen appearances before the end of the season. He was never a first team regular for The Shrimpers in the two seasons after his initial introduction, scoring twice in 19 more appearances for Southend before a move to Bristol City in June 1938.

He had a single successful season at Ashton Gate scoring 10 goals in 37 appearances for The Robins as they finished eighth in the Third Division (South), before a move back to London to join Clapton Orient in July 1939. However his career was substantially interrupted by the outbreak of the Second World War in September 1939, and although he returned to play for The O’s in the first League season after the War, he retired in 1947 after scoring twice in 15 appearances either side of the conflict.
