Rotherham, Yorkshire born full back Alf Lee started his football career with Rotherham Town in 1911, with his performances earning him a transfer to Second Division Grimsby Town in September 1912, with Lee making his Football League debut against Notts County in September 1913. He had made 15 appearances for Grimsby by the time peacetime football was suspended due to the onset of the First World War.
When the conflict was concluded he signed for Second Division West Ham United, playing in West Ham’s inaugural Football League fixture against Lincoln City in August 1919 and making 28 appearances over three seasons before joining Newport County in July 1922, as The Hammers released over 20 players. However he only played 4 times for Newport County, his last appearance being against Exeter City in February 1923, retiring that summer.
