Description
Ardeer, Ayrshire born centre half joined Heart of Midlothian in 1923 from junior club Ardeer Thistle, and had a lengthy career, playing only for Hearts from the mid 1920’s through to the mid 1930’s, but for a loan spell with Cowdenbeath in 1926, and becoming Hearts’ club captain, making some 300 appearances for The Jambos. Described at the time as “reliable and enterprising”, he won 3 caps for Scotland making his international debut against Wales in a 4-2 win at Ninian Park, Cardiff in October 1929, winning further caps against Ireland and Wales in the autumn of 1932. He retired in 1935.
