Description

Yoker, Glasgow born centre half Harold McKenna began his football career with Glasgow Ashfield, from where he was signed by Glasgow Rangers for whom he made his Scottish League debut against Dundee in August 1916. He made 36 appearances for ‘Gers over the next two seasons and won The Scottish League Championship in 1917-18 before a move on loan to St Mirren in August 1919, where he made 52 appearances and won the Victory Cup with The Buddies in 1919 before returning to Glasgow Rangers in April 1920, where he made 4 further appearances for Rangers during their 1920-21 campaign.

McKenna joined Third Lanark during the 1921 close season where he played for three seasons and scored the only two goals of his career, making 93 appearances for The Warriors, before heading south to join Third Division (South) club Brighton & Hove Albion in November 1924, making his debut in an FA Cup tie at Southampton at the end of January 1925. He also made 7 League appearances for The Seagulls through to March, but returned to Scotland to join Alloa Athletic in September 1925 where he played for one season making 17 appearances for The Wasps before retiring.

NB the photograph, while published in 1922 after McKenna had joined Third Lanark, clearly shows the rampant lion badge of Glasgow Rangers.
