Description

Stenhousemuir, Stirlingshire born centre half Bob Ross began his football career with Camelon Juniors after the First World War, from where he joined local Scottish League club Falkirk in 1921 from where he joined hometown club Stenhousemuir a year later. He moved south to join Third Division (South) club Plymouth Argyle in 1923, making his Football League debut at Luton Town in February 1924 and despite playing only once more for The Pilgrims when playing a week later against Reading at the start of the following month, he was on the winning side both matches.

Joining Second Division club Coventry City in the 1924 close season, he made 21 appearances but lost his place in February 1925 as The Sky Blues suffered relegation. Ross joined North Eastern League club Workington in 1925 and returned to Football League action when he signed for Third Division (North) newcomers Carlisle United for whom he played in their inaugural League fixture, a 3-2 win at Accrington Stanley that August, scoring twice in 24 appearances for The Cumbrians before losing his place in March 1929.

Ross left Bruton Park in the summer, joining Wrexham, where he scored once in 32 appearances for The Dragons during 1929-30, but he then moved into non league football, firstly with Midland League club Scunthorpe & Lindsey United in 1930, then with Boston Town in 1931 and finally with Hyde United in 1932, his last known club before his eventual retirement,
