Description

Stirling born inside right or centre forward Bob Taylor began his football career with Sauchie United in the early 1920’s and played for Alva Albion Rangers in 1923 before joining St Bernard’s in 1924. His Scottish League experience was furthered with a spell at Stenhousemuir in 1925 before a move to First Division club Third Lanark in 1926, from where he was signed by First Division club Middlesbrough in the 1927 close season. Taylor spent 1927-28 in the reserves at Ayresome Park without making their first eleven, and was released to join Third Division (North) club Southport in the summer of 1928, making his Football League debut against Ashington the same August.

Taylor scored in his second match for Southport at Doncaster Rovers and was a regular on the scoresheet during a single season at Haig Avenue, scoring 11 goals in 32 appearances for The Sandgrounders as they finished mid-table, but he joined non league Connah’s Quay & Shotton in the summer of 1929 before returning to Stenhousemuir in 1930. He subsequently joined Bo’ness later the same year, his final recorded club.
