Description

Padiham, Lancashire born centre half (and sometimes inside forward) Jack Dewhurst began his football career with local junior club Padiham in 1895 and had a short spell with Nelson in 1896 before joining Second Division Darwen from Padiham in June 1898, making his Football League debut at Lincoln City that September. Before the season was out, after 8 games and a trio of goals, Blackburn Rovers had secured his signature in April 1898, and he played six seasons at Ewood Park scoring 46 goals in 182 games before joining Southern League Brentford in 1905.

A brief 4 game spell followed before he returned to Lancashire to join Bury in October 1905, where he was made the club captain. He had seven seasons at Gigg Lane, scoring 8 goals in 196 appearances before leaving the club after their 1912 relegation from the First Division, whereupon he joined Central League Accrington Stanley before finishing his career with Morecambe in 1913.
