Description

Melton Mowbray, Leicestershire born left back Harry Bailey played for Melton Rovers, Melton Town and Birmingham St George’s before joining Leicester Fosse in 1891. He played in the club’s first ever games in both the Midlands’ League and the Football League, a 4-3 Second Division defeat at Grimsby Town in September 1894, he was the first player to reach 100 appearances for the club and also scored the Fosse’s first ever penalty. He played two seasons of League football as a regular in the side but lost his place in 1896, mainly playing for the reserves, playing twice more in 1896-97 for the first team, and finally an appearance at Walsall in September 1899 which proved his final match of 53 appearances during The Fossils’ League era.

Bailey also made two first class appearances for Leicestershire in the 1896 County Championship, playing against Lancashire at Aigburth, Liverpool, and Derbyshire at Grace Road, Leicester. He scored 49 runs in his two matches, at an average of 12.25, with a high score of 15.
