Paisley, Renfrewshire born goalkeeper Hugh Farquharson began his football career with Renfrew Juniors in 1933 before joining Second Division Hull City in September 1934 as understudy to Geordie Maddison. He made his Football League debut at Fulham that October and played 7 times for The Tigers during his two seasons at Anlaby Road, before returning to Scotland to join Dunfermline Athletic in June 1936. “In spite of several brilliant displays” by Farquharson, Dunfermline were relegated to the Second Division in 1937, and Farquharson continued in their goal through to the Second World War.
