Description

Darwen, Lancashire born wing half Billy Crawshaw was stationed at Topsham Barracks with The Royal Artillery in 1919 and played a few matches as an amateur for Southern League Exeter City. On leaving the armed forces he signed professional forms for The Grecians and made his Southern League debut later in 1919, and after their election to The Football League he went on to appear in 28 Division Three (South) matches during Exeter City’s first season as a Football League club, including playing in Exeter’s inaugural League fixture against Brentford in August 1920.

He returned north to sign for Accrington Stanley in the 1921 close season where he made 62 appearances in two seasons at Peel Park.
Crawshaw then returned to Exeter City for a second spell with the club ahead of the 1923-24 season but he only featured in a further 11 League and two FA Cup matches, before joining Taunton United in the summer of 1925.

He was elected as chairman of The Grecians Association in June 1948, and subsequently he was appointed to the Exeter City board of directors in February 1954, later becoming vice-chairman, resigning in 1961.
