West Bromwich, Staffordshire born left half Fred Binks began his football career with St Andrews and was on the books of First Division Birmingham from December 1919 as an amateur but never made a first team appearance and transferred to Third Division (North) near neighbours Walsall in June 1922, turning professional, making his Football League debut at Bradford Park Avenue that September.
