Description

Leek, Staffordshire born centre half John Vigrass began his football career with Leek Alexandra in 1919. He joined Third Division (South) club Queen’s Park Rangers in August 1921, making his Football League debut against Merthyr Town in April 1922, playing twice more before the season’s end. From the start of the 1922-23 season he was a fixture in the Rangers first team and scored his only career goal in a 1-1 draw with Merthyr Town at Loftus Road in April 1923. It was said of him at the time that he “secured his place in the Rangers League team by consistently good play… strong in defence, especially clever in heading the ball”.

Having made 37 appearances the previous season, he played 31 times in 1923-24 before being released, he then joined Cheshire League club Macclesfield Town in the summer of 1924, having played in total 71 times for Queen’s Park Rangers. At Macclesfield he was the club’s captain from 1925, leading The Silkmen to The Cheshire League Challenge Cup in 1926. He scored 11 goals in 81 League and Cup appearances for Macclesfield over two seasons, his last recorded club.
