Description

Busby, Renfrewshire born centre half Allan Sliman began his senior football career with Scottish League Arthurlie in 1927 and was soon signed by Second Division Bristol City for £280 in September 1928, making his Football League debut for Alex Raisbeck’s Robins against Southampton the same October, immediately establishing himself as a regular in their first eleven and missing very few fixtures over the next four seasons, which ended with Bristol City’s relegation at the end of 1931-32. By then however, Sliman had been sold to fellow relegation strugglers Chesterfield in March 1932 after a single goal in 142 appearances for the Ashton Gate club.

Chesterfield were relegated in his first full season at Saltergate, but he stayed with the club and was an ever present as they won the Third Division (North) Championship in 1935-36, remaining a regular in their line up for the next two seasons in the Second Division.

After 11 goals in 265 appearances for The Spireites, Sliman joined non league Chelmsford City as player manager in October 1938, playing in their 1938-39 FA Cup run. Sliman managed Chelmsford for 25 matches, of which 16 were won and seven lost. Sliman died in an RAF plane crash in 1945.
