Barnard Castle, County Durham born full back Albert Evans joined local junior side Barnard Castle in 1890 from where he joined Aston Villa, making his Football League debut against Bury in November 1896. He won 3 League Championships (in his first four seasons in the team) and the 1897 FA Cup (to complete the Double that season) with Aston Villa for whom he made 216 appearances over 10 seasons. He spent 2 seasons before retirement with West Bromwich Albion for whom he played a further 40 games, hanging up his boots at the end of 1908. After World War One he spent more than 4 years as manager of Coventry City taking the post in June 1920 and relinquishing it in November 1924.
