Stocksbridge, Sheffield born winger Basil Wood joined Crook Town in 1919 after the end of the First World War from where he joined Second Division Leeds United in 1920, making his Football League debut against Fulham on Christmas Day 1920. He played regularly during his debut season, making 22 appearances, and then scored two goals in successive games in September 1921 in wins against Blackpool and Clapton Orient, and after 34 appearances in 1921-22 he joined Sheffield Wednesday in the summer of 1922. However he failed to get into Wednesday’s first team and finished with the professional game thereafter.
