Description

Ynysddu, Monmouthshire born left back George Williams began his senior football career when he signed for Third Division (South) Charlton Athletic in November 1934, but he couldn’t break into their first eleven as they won back to back promotions in 1934-35 and 1935-36. He joined Aldershot in May 1936, making his Football League debut at Northampton Town the same August, and he soon established himself as The Shots’ regular left back before being signed by Second Division Millwall in November 1938, after 73 appearances for Aldershot.

He played both sides of the Second World War for Millwall, after his career was significantly interrupted by the suspension of peacetime football in September 1939 after the outbreak of the War. He made 15 appearances in the first post war season, 1946-47, for Millwall, before joining South Shields in 1947 after 29 appearances for The Lions.

NB in the photograph he is on the left shaking hands with Millwall team mate Fred Fisher.
