Durham born outside left Jack Wilkinson began his football career with Consett Celtic after the First World War before signing for Third Division (South) club Watford in the 1921 close season, for whom he made his Football League debut against Swansea Town that August. A regular in Watford’s first eleven in his first two seasons at Vicarage Road, he lost his place in April 1923 and played only 3 more matches for The Hornets in 1923-24 and none at all thereafter before returning to the North East to join Hartlepools United in October 1925 after 7 goals in 65 appearances. However he never managed a first team appearance for The Monkey Hangers before leaving professional football.
