Description

Smethwick born inside left Jack Whitehouse played for Blackheath Town and Redditch Town before the First World War and joined Smethwick Town in 1918, from where he joined Second Division Birmingham in 1919, making his Football League debut in their first post-war match against Hull City in August 1919, scoring the opener in a 4-1 victory. Although they finished third that season, narrowly missing out on promotion, they won the Second Division Championship in 1921 with Whitehouse bagging 11 goals in the campaign. But after 2 seasons in the First Division he returned to the Second Division in the summer of 1923 with a move to Derby County after 35 goals in 115 appearances for The Blues.

At Derby he was a regular goalscorer and again won promotion to the First Division, this time as Second Division runners up in 1926, and back in Division One he enjoyed his best season in 1927-28 when he bagged 21 goals and finished second in the scoring charts only to Harry Bedford. In March 1929 he joined Sheffield Wednesday playing 6 times and scoring once on their League Championship run in, and although they repeated the feat in 1929-30, Whitehouse only made 4 appearances during the campaign. He moved to Bournemouth & Boscombe Athletic in the summer of 1930, and had 3 seasons on the South Coast where he managed 17 goals in 113 appearances before joining non league Folkestone in 1933, returning to The Midlands to play for Worcester City in 1934.
