Description

Cheltenham, Gloucestershire born inside forward Jack Wesley began his football career with St Austell in 1931 and joined Third Division (North) Gateshead in June 1932, making his Football League debut at Barnsley in January 1933, scoring the opener in a 4-2 victory. He became a regular in the team from the following August, and top scored for Gateshead in 1933-34 with 27 goals in 41 appearances including a hat-trick at Darlington in early September, 4 goals in a 6-3 win over Hartlepools United later the same month, and a hat-trick against New Brighton in November.

Such feats brought him to the attention of Second Division Bradford Park Avenue, who signed him in September 1934 after 33 goals in 56 appearances for Gateshead, and he continued to play regularly for Park Avenue until the outbreak of the Second World War in September 1939, which effectively ended his career. By then he had scored 27 goals in 155 appearances for Bradford.
