Description
Stewarton, Ayrshire born centre half Sandy Wardrope began his football career with Broxburn and played for Kilbirnie Ladeside in 1906 from where he joined Scottish League Airdrieonians in 1907. He had three seasons with The Diamonds before venturing south to join First Division club Middlesbrough in 1910, making his Football League debut at Aston Villa the same November, making 11 appearances for ‘Boro before joining Southern League club Portsmouth in the 1911 close season. He stayed two seasons at Fratton Park before returning to Scotland in 1913 to play for Nithsdale Wanderers, his final club before his eventual retirement.
