Description
Motherwell, Lanarkshire born inside right James Wardrop began his football career with Bo’ness after the First World War and joined hometown club Motherwell in 1922, scoring twice in 29 appearances for The Steelmen before joining Broxburn United in 1924. Wardrop then followed the increasingly well trodden path to go and play in the nascent American Soccer Leagues, first with Brooklyn Wanderers in 1925. He joined the Philadelphia Field Club in 1926 and had three spells with them between 1926 and 1929, punctuated with spells at Newark Skeeters between 1927 and 1928, and Bridgeport Bears earlier in 1929. After his third spell with Philadelphia he re-joined Brooklyn Wanderers later the same year and played for them in a defeat to Glasgow Celtic at Brooklyn in June 1931 as part of Celtic’s US and Canadian Summer Tour.
