Description
Blackburn born full back Richard Walmsley started his football career as a youth, when he played for Blackburn Trinity in 1911 and later joined Football League First Division club Blackburn Rovers. However with the interruption of the First World War, he didn’t make his Football League debut for Rovers until the start of the 1919-20 season at home to Preston North End that August, and he soon became a regular member of the Rovers first eleven playing 32 times in his debut season. However he only went on to make a further 7 appearances over the next two seasons with the Ewood Park side, before joining non League Lancaster Town in 1923.
He was the (considerably – 9 years) younger brother of former Blackburn stalwart Albert Walmsley and they played together several times in the first season after the War.
