Description
West Bromwich, Staffordshire born left back Ben Timmins began his football career playing for Beeches Road Methodists, and played for West Bromwich club Dartmouth Victoria after the First World War, from where he was signed by Birmingham & District League club Walsall in 1920, and when Walsall were invited to help form the Third Division (North) in 1921, Timmins made his Football League debut in their inaugural League fixture at Lincoln City that August.
Timmins was a regular during three seasons at Hillary Street, helping them finish third in the division in 1922-23, and after 114 matches he was sold to Wolverhampton Wanderers along with Tommy Bowen for £130 in March 1924, playing 5 matches for Wolves as they won the Third Division (North) Championship at the end of the season. But he was a fringe player for their next two seasons, making only 6 more appearances in the Second Division for Wolves before a move to Kidderminster Harriers in 1926. He later played for Bridgnorth in 1927 and subsequently for Aveley before his eventual retirement.
