Description

Walsall born winger George (Thomas) Taylor started his football career in 1922 with junior club Walsall Wood, playing for Bloxwich Strollers in 1923 and Stourbridge in 1924 before joining First Division Notts County in the summer of 1925, for whom he made his Football League debut at Newcastle United that September, soon establishing himself as a fixture in the team. Although Notts were relegated at the end of the season, and suffered further relegation to the Third Division (North) in 1930, Taylor helped them win the Third Division (North) Championship at the first time of asking in 1931 missing only one game, and continued as a regular, being ever present for the next two seasons, before Bolton Wanderers signed him in December 1933 after 49 goals in 277 appearances for The Magpies.

He didn’t miss a game for Bolton until February 1937, by when they had gained promotion in 1935 to the First Division as Second Division runners up, losing in the 1935 FA Cup semi final in a replay to West Bromwich Albion at The Victoria Ground. He joined Coventry City in October 1937 after 29 goals in 170 appearances, scoring 11 goals in 67 appearances over two seasons for the Highfield Road club before the outbreak of World War Two brought his career to a premature end in 1939.

Not to be confused with team mate George Taylor, also of Bolton Wanderers, both played several seasons in the same Bolton team.
