Burnley born goalkeeper Willie Tatham began his senior football career with his hometown First Division club, Burnley, making his Football League debut at West Bromwich Albion in September 1895, and in two seasons he made 47 appearances for The Clarets before their relegation in 1897. He joined Bolton Wanderers as understudy to John Sutcliffe but made only two appearances in the late autumn of 1897 before returning to Burnley in 1898, by when Jack Hillman had assumed the goalkeeping incumbency, and Tatham made only 6 more first team appearances over three further seasons at Turf Moor before joining Nelson in 1901, where he later finished his playing career.
