Lincoln born centre forward Tommy Talks joined hometown professional club Lincoln City after World War One and spent part of 1919-20 there without making a first team appearance before joining non league Grimsby Rovers later in 1919. He then moved to Grimsby Town in 1920 making his Football League debut against Crystal Palace in February 1921 scoring the winner on his debut in a 1-0 win against the team who would be crowned Third Division (South) Champions. The following season Grimsby switched to the new Third Division (North) and finished 3rd but Talks made only 6 appearances, scoring twice, before moving to Boston Town in the summer of 1922 after 4 goals in 16 appearances for The Mariners.
