Description

Shirebrook, Derbyshire born wing half Albert Sykes began his football career with Maltby Victoria in 1922 and played for Maltby Main Colliery Welfare in 1923 before joining First Division Birmingham City in 1924, for whom he made his Football League debut, and only appearance for The Blues, at Notts County in May 1925. He joined Brighton & Hove Albion in 1926, spending two seasons on the fringes of the first team, making 16 appearances before a move to Lincoln City in the summer of 1928. In 1929-30 he had his best season at Sincil Bank, playing in 27 matches, but lost his place the following season and joined Midland League Peterborough & Fletton United in 1931 after a single goal in 44 appearances for The Imps. He joined Luton Town in 1932 but failed to make the first eleven, and later the same year joined non league Grantham, where he later finished his career.
