Description

Musselburgh, East Lothian born centre forward George Sutherland began his football career with Linlithgow Rose in 1932 and joined Scottish League East Stirlingshire in 1933, moving to East Fife in 1934. He joined Partick Thistle in 1935 and played with them until the outbreak of the Second World War, and he returned to Firhill after the conflict before eventually leaving to join Third Division (South) Leyton Orient in August 1949, making his Football League debut the same month against Watford. He scored 22 goals in 42 appearances during a two season spell with The O’s including hat-tricks home and away against Ipswich Town in the 1949-50 season, and in the summer of 1951 he joined non league Hereford United. He returned to the south east to join Guildford City in 1952 and finished his career at Dartford, whom he joined in 1953.
