Description

Tynemouth, Northumberland born wing half Cornelius (known as Neil or Con, he played both sides) Sullivan began his football career with Newburn Grange in 1921 and joined the books of Preston North End in January 1922 without making their first eleven. In June 1923 he joined Swansea Town but again failed to make their first team, joining Third Division (South) Southend United in August 1924. He made his Football League debut at Queen’s Park Rangers in May 1925, his only appearance for The Shrimpers.

He returned to the north east to join Newburn that summer and from there was signed by Second Division club Hull City in June 1926. Making his Tigers debut in October 1926 he established himself as a first team regular from the new year, playing 27 times in his debut season and 30 times in 1927-28. However he lost his place in the first team  at the end of August the next season, and made only 13 further appearances during 1928-29, leaving the club in June 1929 to join Bradford Park Avenue after 3 goals in 70 appearances. He made only two appearances for Avenue in September 1929 before joining Carlisle United in July 1930, where again he was a fringe player, making 10 appearances during 1930-31 before returning to the north east, joining non league Wallsend in 1931.
