Description

Battersea, London born centre forward Sidney Sugden began his football career with Ilford in 1901 from where he joined Southern League West Ham United in 1902. His only appearance for The Irons came in October 1902 when he played in a 3-1 victory over Watford at Upton Park. Joining First Division Nottingham Forest in late 1902, he made his Football League debut at Derby County in January 1903, and in 1903-04 he was Forest’s top scorer in the League with 13 goals at a ratio of a goal every other game.

In 1905 he returned to London to join Southern League Queen’s Park Rangers after 16 goals in 48 appearances for Forest, helping Rangers to win the Southern League Championship in 1907-08. He scored 21 goals in 68 appearances for Rangers before joining Brentford in the summer of 1908, where he stayed a single season, scoring 9 times in 32 appearances, before finishing his career with a season at Southend United in 1909-10.
