Motherwell, Lanarkshire born left half or centre half Robert Stewart began his football career with Larkhall Thistle from where he signed for hometown Scottish League club Motherwell in 1916. A regular over the next eight seasons for The Steelmen, he scored 8 goals in 292 appearances for them before a move to Ayr United in 1924. He had three further seasons with The Honest Men, scoring 5 goals in 77 appearances. He then moved to Royal Albert in 1927, where he played a final season before his retirement in 1928.
