Poplar born wing half Bill Stanton joined Worksop Town in 1909, moving to Second Division Gainsborough Trinity in 1910 and making his Football League debut against Huddersfield Town in September 1910. He made 9 appearances for Gainsborough in 1910-11 before returning to Worksop Town at the end of the season. He joined Rotherham County in July 1912, playing for them both sides of World War One including a goal in 28 Second Division appearances after they’d been elected to the Football League after the War. He then joined newly elected Third Division (South) Millwall, making 66 appearances and scoring 3 goals for The Lions over the next 3 seasons before joining Welsh League Llanelly in 1923.
